Talents
EJ’s spec (32/3/6) is the theoretical best. My spec (31/4/6) has differences from EJ’s: Curse of Exhaustion, 1/2 Jinx, 1/2 Nightfall, 1/2 Fel Synergy.
Feel free to experiment. Jinx, Curse of Exhaustion, Death’s Embrace, Nightfall, Pandemic, Seed of Corruption, and Fel Synergy are all valid and tried experiments to pull/put points. Putting points in Improved Fear or Improved Howl of Terror are pretty pointless for PvE.

Gems & Consumables
Our gems are based around Intellect, which is a Red gem. So, orange gems in yellow sockets and purple gems in blue sockets.
Match the colors when the socket bonus is 20+ Int or 30+ rating stat.
Meta = Burning Shadowspirit Diamond (54 Int + 3% Crit / req. 3 red gems)
Yellow = Reckless (Int/Haste) = Ember Topaz (+20/+20) / Lava Coral (+25/+25)
Blue = Veiled (Int/Hit) = Demonseye (+20/+20) / Shadow Spinel (+25/+25)
Red/Prismatic = Brilliant (Int) = Inferno Ruby (+40) / Queen’s Garnet (+50) / Chimera’s Eye (+67)
You want the +90 Int food (Seafood Magnifique Feast / Severed Sagefish Head). You want the +300 Int flask, Flask of the Draconic Mind. Our favored potion is Volcanic Potion (1200 Int / 25s).
Races & Profession Bonuses
Alliance: Worgen > Gnome > Human > Dwarf
Horde: Orc > Goblin > Troll > Blood Elf > Forsaken
Blacksmithing can be the best profession if you acquire two epic gems (2 * 50 = +100 Int) to put in the extra sockets.
Tailoring is the best profession (+85.9 Int) with its non-stacking back enchant Lightweave Embroidery (Rank 2).
Jewelcrafting (+81 Int) is the second best profession over rare gems (+51 Int over epic) with its 3 Chimera’s Eye gems.
Next (+80 Int) are the other production professions: Alchemy, Blacksmithing (rare gems), Enchanting, Engineering, Inscription, and Leatherworking.
Herbalism has a equivalent +80 haste bonus.
Skinning gives +80 crit.
Mining gives +120 stamina, which is rather useless for a DPSer in a PvE group situation.
